Morning Routine Checklists for Kids

Free Morning Routine Checklists for Kids

My kids don’t love getting up and ready in the morning, but these morning routine checklists for kids really do help! They love checking off each task as they go along their routine, and before they know it they are ready for the day!

I’ve made a few different versions of these morning routine checklist for kids to try to serve a wider variety of kids and families. I know that your morning routine may look different from ours, but hopefully some families will find these useful!

*I left a blank space at the top of the worksheet incase you wanted to write your child’s name there!

Benefits of Routines for Kids

Routines have many benefits for children. Let’s talk about some of the potential benefits of having a morning routine checklist for your kids.

  • Predictability – Following a morning routine helps your child feel safe as they understand and feel comfortable with what to expect throughout the morning.
  • Independence – Once the child gets used to the routine it will go more smoothly and quicker with less and less help from a parent. It can be such a relief once the child is able to get themselves ready in the morning.
  • Responsibility – Routines are great to teach your child responsibility. Most of the things on this list are things your child can do on their own! Teaching our children how to care for themselves and complete necessary tasks is an important part of parenting.
  • Healthy Habits – Healthy habits are easily created when children are taught step-by-step how to get tasks done in an efficient and healthy way.
  • Making it fun – My children love the simple fact that they get to check off a box once they complete a task. Sometimes they earn a reward for a dong such a great job getting themselves ready in the morning.

If a child is struggling with wanting to follow the routine, don’t be afraid to change it to suit them better. Be sure to offer lots of positive feed back ie. “It is so great that you’ve brushed your own teeth this morning! You are just getting so big and independent!”

Different Versions

I’ve created a more simple version for young kids who may not be able to read yet, and a slightly more complex version where the child can read the tasks in their routine.

I also made a few variants in these routines. Some include grabbing their backpack and lunch, but I know many homeschoolers don’t actually leave the house with a backpack or lunch, so I also made a routine that simply includes doing schoolwork instead.

I hope these help you have some happy mornings!
