My daughter was over the moon excited when she saw I had hung all of her letter art. I’d bet your child will love it as well.
Let’s get started on how to make this awesome letter banner!
Step 1 – Gather Supplies
You’ll need:
- Watercolor letter cards that your child made previously (see the tutorial here)
- 26+ clothes pins (we used 27 and added a heart for the last one)
- Dowl Rod (I got this one from Walmart for less than $2)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Something to hang it with, I drilled holes in the end of the dowl and used some little nails.
Step 2 – Assemble the Banner!
You can get all technical and measure the distance between each clothes pin, but I just eyeballed it and it turned out great!
For reference, my dowl is 36″ long and my watercolor cards are each 2″ X 2″.
I alternated the direction of the opening of the pin so that I could create two rows of letters. A row above the dowl, and a row below the dowl.
I suggest applying glue to the pivot point of the pin as shown in this picture. This will help reduce the chances of the pin falling off as it will have less stress applied when opening the pins up.
Glue each pin on the dowl and then put your cards in!
As I mentioned above, I drilled a couple small holes in each end of the dowl and used some long finishing nails to hang it on the wall. But anyway you hang it will be fine! Other ideas are command hooks, or a string tied to it.
Step 3 – Show it off!
Show your child what you made for their art! My daughter BEEMED when I told her that she did such a good job on her letters that I wanted to hang them up so we could see them all the time.
We’ve taken the letters down a few times already to play and learn with them! Check out some great ideas on how to use these cards in fun learning activities ~ Letter Matching Activities.
