What are some of the best brain games for kids that don’t involve screens?
In our current world our children are constantly stimulated by tv shows, movies, and video games. It’s definitely nice to take a break from the screens and find some challenging brain games for kids to use instead!
Here is a list of some of my kids’ favorite (screen-free) games that challenge their brains.

1. Rush Hour and Hoppers Bundle (Jr.)
Rush Hour and Hoppers are, by far, two of my kids’ favorite brain games!
Both of these games are created by ThinkFun. Both of these games strengthen sequential reasoning skills through fun gameplay.
You can totally purchase these separately. However, my kids love them both and you can save a little $$ if you purchase the bundle.
Rush Hour Preschool (Yes! They even have a preschool version for the youngest learners!)
2. GeoBoard with Rubber Bands
Ages: 3-8
In this game, the child copies the guide card to create different designs using rubber bands. This game is great for children to learn fine motor skills and helps the child to see how different shapes can makeup larger designs.
3. Brainometry
Age: 5+
This game uses different shaped blocks that the child uses to create different 3-D designs. This brain game for kids develops fine motor skills and sharpens cognitive thinking!
4. Cat’s Cradle
Age: 6+
This game is so simple but so cool! This game uses a single string and your fingers! Learn how to make the different string figures following this book, and impress your friends.
5. Magnetic Maze Board
Age: 3+
This magnetic maze board is so much fun! And perfect for the car as all the pieces are contained inside one main piece! In this game the child uses a magnetic pen to move balls through the maze.
6. Shape Sudoku
Age: 5+
I used to love sudoku puzzles when I was younger, and now my kiddos love them as well! Here is a fun alternative that’s a bit easier for younger kids to take part in.
7. Snap Circuits Jr.
Age: 8+
My brother always loved his circuit board growing up! We’ve borrowed a circuit board kit from the library recently and my kids were amazed!
Kids learn about circuits and electricity using this toy.

8. Build-a-Track
Age: 4-8
Kids will use logic and engage in visual perception & observation, hand-eye coordination, and sensory & motor skills.
9. Puzzles!
Classic, but so good for the brain! My families absolute favorite puzzles are the Usborne “Book and Jigsaw” puzzles! They are fun, beautiful, but also educational. Win, win, win!
Here are the ones we’ve purchased and love:
Usborne has even more variety, so be sure to check them out!

There are tons of puzzle game books out there, I love these because all you need is a pencil and your brain! I like puzzle books that have a variety of puzzles in them.
